Peel Region Child Care Fee Subsidy Estimator

A Peel family earning $45,000 with two children under six in licensed care pays $145.83 a month for child care — that is the total for the household, not per child. The full fee would be $957.00. Peel covers the other $9,734 a year.

Every line above is Ontario Regulation 138/15, s. 10 (2) to (5) — the income test Peel applies. It is published law, not a Peel discretion, so the arithmetic is the same wherever you live in Ontario. What changes is the daily rate your local provider charges.

Compare each child's fee to the $10-a-day target
The $10-a-day deadline already passed. Canada and Ontario aimed for an average of $10 a day per child under six by March 31, 2026, and missed it. In December 2025 they extended the deal to March 2027 and spent $695 million holding fees at today's average of $19 a day through December 31, 2026. Eight provinces and territories are at $10 a day or less. Ontario is not one of them — so for a lower-income Mississauga family, the Peel subsidy, not the fee cap, is where the money is.
03 / WHAT TO DO NEXT

Turning this into an actual subsidy

Bottom line: the contribution is worked out once for your household, not once per child. Putting a second child into licensed care barely moves what you pay — it just adds subsidy. That is the most under-used feature of the way Ontario's income test is written.
Confirmed figures
  • The $20,000 exemption, the 10% and 30% rates, the $10-a-month floor and the 50% cut for children under six — all set in provincial regulation.
  • Full subsidy for ODSP recipients, and for Ontario Works recipients who are working or in employment activities.
  • The $22-a-day ceiling on a licensed CWELCC base fee, and the under-six age rule behind it.
  • Peel's own conditions: Peel resident, child 12 or under, licensed care only, and 85 paid absence days a year.
Not published — treat as unconfirmed
  • The most Peel will pay your provider per day. Peel approves a rate per provider and won't go above it. That schedule isn't public, so a very expensive centre may not be subsidized to the full amount shown here.
  • The wait list. Not published. Peel's advice is to apply at least four weeks before you need care.
  • A Peel-only average fee. The $19 figure is the Ontario-wide average — there is no published Peel number, so none is used.
  • Disability and special-needs deductions. Peel can lower your income before the test runs, based on your unreimbursed expenses. That depends on receipts, so it isn't estimated here — it can only push your cost below the figure above.
